As part of Tiger beer’s partnership with Vice, a series of videos were made titled the ‘The Found Series’ and these are hosted on the VBS.TV channel as well as on Tiger Beer’s YouTube channel. The aim of the project is to bring out innovative ideas, and especially “bringing an unknown concept to life” in a way that it can be enjoyed on a mass medium by anyone who would like to explore behind the scenes of these creative pioneers and how they work.
The second of those three videos made in partnership with Vice features the members of Off Modern.
Off Modern describe themselves as a detour into the unexplored potentials of the modern project. They are a creative collective that has been based in South East London since 2008. They wanted to open an area for a meeting point for the creative people in their area. The five had never met before as a group prior to their first official meeting. They are based in The Woodmill in Bermondsey.
They are a group of five and all decided that South London held the key to what they were looking for. The number of people in the arts that were living in the area of Peckham was not being reflected and suitable venues for meeting and club nights.
They have quickly established themselves as a significant and influential platform for young musicians, artists, philosophers and writers to promote grass roots movements into the contemporary world of literature, art and music in the area. What they wanted to achieve was not a new concept, but where they wanted to was.
Work that was being created by artists in the area was being exhibited elsewhere and bands in the area never played locally. They established a pop up gallery in Elephant and Castle’s shopping centre in 2009. The area in South London where they started is where they know best there are two colleges and various neighbourhood meeting points. They have held a good number of events in the area.
The group have a collective intent on celebrating DJs and visual artists as well as live bands and they treat all others equally therefore they are more respected than just another gig. If you want to see how important they really are, all you have to do is drive by their place on a Saturday night at midnight and see how long the queue is to get in. They do what they do well and they do it for the better of all the artists in the area, who ever they may be.
